Natural dyeing

Dyes are everywhere. We can obtain them from minerals, bugs, and plants, and extracted from roots, leaves, bark, and wood. Even fruits, flowers, and fungi offer us beautiful color. Food waste from peels and pits can be used for dyeing. The dyes can come directly from the fresh plant or for more commercial dyeing they are typically in a dried, powdered, or extracted form. Natural dyes typically have a softer quality to the colour, so you won’t get a hot pink or neon orange. They have a richness to them you can’t really replicate with synthetics.
